Safe Family Activities for October

While this pandemic has taught us that pivoting is essential to thriving, it has also reminded us of the importance of taking the time to enjoy our loved ones. Our kids, for example, are not met with traditional festivities. Having spent so much time at home, we now find ourselves looking for a creative way to keep their growing minds curious and entertained. Here are some great virtual (and actual) places you can safely explore this month as a family.

Go to Pumpkin Patch
Lucky for us, many local pumpkin patches are still open and safely operating. Going to your favorite spot and choosing pumpkins to carve at home are a great memory the whole family will enjoy.
Underwood Family Farm – Moorpark
Tapia Bros– Encino
Tina’s Pumpkin Patch– Sherman Oaks
Bennett’s Best Christmas Trees & Pumpkins– Agoura Hills

Go on a Virtual Museum Tour
Who says they can’t explore from home? Check out these awesome museum tours.
Smithsonian – Take a tour of exhibits both past and present.
The Louvre – Choose from a variety of different exhibits to show your students.
Natural History Museum – Visit this famous Washington D.C museum and explore dinosaurs and inhabitants of earlier times.
The MET – Allow your students to explore beautiful works of art.

Have Fun At Home
Some of the best memories are created around the dinner table. October is the perfect time to test out fun kid-friendly recipes and experiments! Consider the following family activities.
Cook or bake something that includes fall’s favorite squash—pumpkins!
Take on fall-themed science experiments
Build a (contained) fire, and make s’mores (safety first)
Plan a family movie night with one of these Halloween movies for kids.

Will you be trying out any of these projects?
